Nutkin is a cherry red 1971 right hand drive early bay window and was named by our son, Sam. He came from Port Elizabeth, South Africa with an original Westfalia SO67 interior, and this is his original colour. Nutkin has been lowered slightly just to give a better driving stance, but retains as much as possible its originality. It has a 1600 twin port engine which was brand new when we bought him, and disc brakes on the front. The only changes to the engine are for an alternator to ensure the battery stays charged.
Nutkin has a socialable setup in the rear with 2 bench seats facing each other with a collapsible table between, great for family dining and food preparation. The rear seats have 2 lap belts, whilst the front seats have three point seat belts.
There is a 3/4 width rock and roll double bed in the main body of the van. We have removed the original roof hammock/cot that comes with these early bay window Westfalias and replaced it with a full width 5ft 6” double bed in the roof. In addition there is a single hammock that stretches across the front seats.
There is a two ring gas burner and a single CD / MP3 player stereo that accepts iPOD and MP3 player inputs. Nutkin has a cool box that runs on 12 or 240 volts.
We had used him as a spare for 2 years after we did a mechanical rebuild soon after we bought him in 2008. When we bought him the suspension joints were wrecked and we soon changed all of the bushes and all the brakes. We also put a brand new engine in after finding both heads were cracked.
In the winter of 2010 we did a complete restoration of the bodywork and now he is ready to help you enjoy some time out retro style.
